Housing Starts Biggest Jump Since January of 2006

The latest reading of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) report showed that housing starts posted their biggest jump since January of this year. The market is proving more resilient than many experts had assumed, and some see the housing starts number as a signal that home building is ready for a rebound.

And, if the government report isn't strong enough to motivate buyers, the buyers can comfort in the fact that mortgage applications are on the rise. The purchase mortgage index is considered a timely gauge of U.S. home sales, and is showing an increase in borrowers who are looking to enter the market.
