NEW Daylight Savings Time Changes
I just received this and thought everyone may be interested.
Good Afternoon,
You are receiving this e-mail as an effort to make you aware of the change made by Congress to Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the United States starting in 2007 (also referred to as DST 2007). These changes could cause computer clocks, mobile devices, and calendar appointments to display incorrect times for March 11 – April 1, 2007 and October 28 – November 4, 2007 and again in subsequent years.
Several reasons prompted us to send this e-mail:
- There has been little publicity of the change to Daylight Savings Time which effects every computer in the United States and Canada.
- Many computers have already been updated with only the first step of the update process. Windows computers configured to automatically download and install updates from Microsoft's Windows Update website probably received the first step of the update process over the past week or two. Since all of the steps in the update process should happen at the same time, if your computer only received the update from Microsoft, your calendar could be displaying appointments during the above timeframes 1 hour later than they were originally scheduled.
- When informing our clients about this change, most of them, were either unaware of the impact or surprised at the amount of work required to ensure that all of their computers, e-mail devices, and calendars are updated properly and timely. So, considering that there are many self-employed and independent workers who rely heavily on their calendar and do not have an IT staff to guide them through this process, we felt that since we were informing our clients of the change, we could also inform others who would benefit from this information.
It is important that you take steps to update your computer, your mobile devices (Blackberries, Palms, etc..), and your calendar appointments as soon as possible. If your organization has an IT staff, you should follow their guidance through the update process. If you are responsible for maintaining your own computer and peripherals, below and attached are the steps you need to follow to perform this update. All of the steps need to be done in a very short window of time or your calendar items are at greater risk to be displayed incorrectly. Additionally, if you work in an office with others, and regularly schedule meetings with them, you should coordinate your updates with your co-workers.
Recommended Update Steps
1. Update your computers
2. Update your wireless/mobile devices
3. Update your calendar appointments
Attached is a document detailing the the steps you'll follow to perform the updates, web links to download updates for your computer and handheld devices, and examples of issues to be aware of relating to appointments during the affected dates.
We hope that this e-mail has helped you, and you should feel free to share this information with whomever you choose. The attached document can also be found at http://www.PremierBusinessSolutions.com/DST2007. We have also reached out to the local news organizations, with whom we have relationships, and expect they too will assist in making the public aware. Finally, you should notice, we're not selling you anything, we're simply providing free advice. In fact, we're not even offering assistance with individual updates, as we could never staff for upgrading so many personal computers. We believe that the information provided here will be enough education and direction for you to perform the updates required, and wish you much success.
