Join the Nation in Celebrating National Homeownership Month
In 2002, President George W. Bush declared June as National Homeownership Month with the goal of increasing minority homeownership in the United States by 5.5 million households by the end of the decade. Each June, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) help raise awareness of homeownership and educate consumers about the home buying process.
NAR encourages its local Realtor associations and their members to plan events and get involved in activities that promote homeownership and help create stronger communities. More information, including a variety of resources and tools are available on the NAR Web site at http://www.realtor.org/homeownership.
In addition, HUD has kicked off a month-long campaign themed “Promoting and Protecting Homeownership” that was designed to promote first-time home buying, encourage potential and current home buyers to learn about the responsibilities that come with homeownership, and to help consumers read and understand the fine print of a mortgage.
